Onset Therapeutics Announces Launch of Optase^TM, a Novel Wound Care Product

Woonsocket, RI (May 24, 2006) - Onset Therapeutics, a specialty pharmaceutical company that focuses on the development and commercialization of innovative treatments for skin and wound related disorders, announced today that they have launched Optase^TM, the first in a series of prescription products expected to be introduced to the rapidly growing wound care market. Optase^TM will be targeted primarily to the long term care market (e.g. Nursing Homes) and acute wound care clinics.

Optase^TM (Trypsin, Balsam Peru, Castor Oil) is a prescription product formulated in a patent pending Gel delivery system for topical application on a wide variety of wounds. It is indicated to promote healing in the treatment of pressure ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers and dehiscent wounds. Optase^TM was created by a team of scientists to specifically address some of the limitations inherent in currently available wound care formulations. "Sub-optimal physical properties can reduce the therapeutic benefit of a formulation's active ingredients. The physical properties of the Optase^TM formulation were specifically tailored to maximize the therapeutic benefit of the product," stated Mark Trumbore, PhD, Project Manager, Scientific Affairs.

Optase's Gel formulation acts as an effective capillary bed stimulant to promote wound healing, while serving as an occlusive barrier to protect the wound site. Optase's clear, easy-to-spread formulation permits wound visualization, minimizes wound bed disruption during application, and eliminates the need for secondary dressings, saving time and money. The product will be promoted initially by a team of 27 field sales representatives that call on target accounts nationwide, through a partnership with Acies Health. The product is currently available through all major drug wholesalers.

In addition to wound care, Onset Therapeutics also focuses on skin related disorders and anticipates launching three dermatology products that incorporate its novel Foam Vehicle Technology in 2006. These products will be promoted by a dermatology field salesforce.
